Yanbu (historic city)
The historic Neighbourhood or (Al Sour village) in Yanbu has historic houses and constructions which are still in good condition. The historical neighbourhood buildings portray the historical construction method of facing brick and mortar. This is a life example of how sustainability could be employed by conservation and renovation. The heritage and preservation of buildings study in Construction, Materials and Technology course for Architectural Engineering students is important in offering the chance for the students to witness how buildings were constructed by using past technology and vernacular materials. The students will be looking at the materials and construction methods in the historic area in Yanbu and learn about the heritage materials. The visit is to aid the students in understanding the topic stated in the Course syllabus (AE 331- Building Construction, Material and Technology II. The students need to do some observation, measuring and sketches during the visit. The marks of the sketches will be added to their Research Assignment: “Heritage Building Materials and Construction in Saudi Arabia”.
